How to Add MX Records for External Email
Using External Email Services
If you want to use Gmail Workspace, Microsoft 365, or another email provider with your domain.
What Are MX Records?
MX (Mail Exchange) records tell email servers where to deliver mail for your domain.
Setting Up MX Records
- Log into DirectAdmin
- Click DNS Management
- Select your domain
- Delete existing MX records (if any)
- Add new MX records from your email provider
Example: Google Workspace
| Priority | Server |
|---|---|
| 1 | ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
| 5 | ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
| 5 | ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
| 10 | ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
| 10 | ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM |
Example: Microsoft 365
| Priority | Server |
|---|---|
| 0 | yourdomain-com.mail.protection.outlook.com |
Priority Numbers
Lower numbers = higher priority. Email servers try the lowest number first.
