How to Install a WordPress Plugin

Plugins add features to your WordPress site.

Method 1: From Plugin Repository

  1. Go to PluginsAdd New
  2. Search for plugin by name or feature
  3. Click Install Now
  4. Click Activate

Method 2: Upload Plugin ZIP

  1. Go to PluginsAdd New
  2. Click Upload Plugin
  3. Choose your ZIP file
  4. Click Install Now
  5. Click Activate

Essential Plugins

  • Security: Wordfence or Sucuri
  • Backup: UpdraftPlus
  • SEO: Yoast SEO or Rank Math
  • Caching: WP Super Cache or LiteSpeed Cache
  • Forms: Contact Form 7 or WPForms

  • Only install plugins you need
  • Delete inactive plugins
  • Keep plugins updated
  • Check compatibility before installing
  • Read reviews and ratings

Too Many Plugins?

More plugins = slower site. Aim for under 20 active plugins and audit regularly.

Plugin Conflicts

If your site breaks after installing a plugin, deactivate it. Test plugins one at a time.
